…Programming is one of the essential skills for a data scientist apart of statistics and linear algebra. There are several data science programming languages. Currently the most popular ones are R, Python and SQL. Python is very much recommended for programming beginners, since it is easy to learn, it has a big online support documentation, and it can be used in data science as well as in web and software development. R is much more specialized compare to Python and it is mostly used for statistical analysis as well as visualisation. Therefore, R is very widely used in research and it is very common among statisticians. No matter if you work with R or Python programming knowledge of SQL remains essential, since you need SQL for rational databases. In general, many professionals regard SQL critical while working with data in general, no matter role.

There many programming languages used in Data Science, eg. Scala, Java or C++, but choosing the most suitable one depends on your programming experience, project goal or industry you work for.
